FPE Community Newsletter 09/20/23
October 02, 2024
Principal's Message:
Greetings Forest Park Students and Families,
Weather: We have experienced very wet, cold days recently. Students, please dress for cold wet weather during the upcoming months. Weather permitting, we will make our best effort to have outdoor lunch-recess each day. In order to stay comfortable during outdoor recess, students need to wear rain-proof gear and water-resistant shoes if available. When temperatures drop to freezing or rise above 90 degrees, we remain indoors. I monitor the National Weather Service, Portland Air Quality Index, and PPS weather-related resources regularly when making decisions about indoor vs. outdoor recesses.
Arrival/Dismissal Traffic: Thank you FPE Families for abiding our parking lot procedures (link to slide-deck). All cars go curbside upon entering at the front and back of the school. All student-passengers exit vehicles on the passenger side onto the sidewalks out front, and to the right of the yellow line under the covered drop-off/pick-up area. We've had a few close calls recently with students running across the parking lot in front of moving cars, requiring drivers to stop abruptly. For everyone's safety, please drive slowly and always be prepared to stop for students crossing. Students, please remember to exit/enter your vehicle on the passenger side only. Thank you for your cooperation in keeping our school community safe!
Parent/Teacher Conferences: sign-ups should have been shared with you, and Parent/Teacher Conferencing begins tomorrow, Thur., Nov. 21 between 3pm and 7:45pm. Conferencing continues next Mon, Nov 24th and Tue, Nov 25th between 8:00am and 7:45pm each day.
Attendance: during Parent/Teacher Conferences, you will have the opportunity to refer to attendance data on your child’s report card. Thank you for supporting regular, on-time attendance. Regular attendance influences how students feel about their connections at school, which in turn affects self-efficacy, growth mindset and achievement.
Thank you Volunteers: A heartfelt thank you to all of our wonderful volunteers who enrich our school every day. Just some helpful reminders to keep everything running smoothly while you are on campus:
Arrive on time to check in at the office. Please avoid arriving too early, as it helps ensure that schedules and classrooms run smoothly.
Sign in on the volunteer laptop and also on the yellow sign-in sheet next to the laptop.
Wear your Volunteer Badge at all times while on campus for security and identification.
Stay within your assigned volunteer areas. Please avoid entering spaces where you are not scheduled to volunteer, as it can be distracting for students.
Photocopying and paper cutting should be done in the Workroom (located opposite the Library). This helps maintain privacy for students in the Health Room and the Office.
We deeply appreciate the love, care, and support you bring to our students and staff. Our school is a better place because of your dedication, time, and generosity!
