LHS Girl's Cross Country Team win State Championship
Notes from Principal Chapman
Dear Families, Students, and Staff,
A belated thank you to all of our community’s Veterans for their service. November also celebrates Native American History Month acknowledging and honoring the many contributions and heritage of Native Americans.November 11-15 is National School Psychologists Week and we love our School Psych Gregg Sheldrake! One of the primary roles of a school psychologist is to help develop and meet the goals of each child's Individualized Education Program, or IEP. They share findings from psychological tests and observations. They also monitor student progress to ensure they are on track with the IEP. School Psychologists also help support a positive inclusive school environment. We appreciate Gregg’s smile in the hallways, support for students and staff, and his day to day insights. As of today, we are also celebrating our final hire of the year and want to welcome Lincoln’s newest Paraeducator Araxi Grigorian-Best to our community.
Kudos to all of Lincoln’s fall sports teams as every team made it to the state playoffs this year, with Boys & Girls Soccer advancing to the quarterfinals! Our fall athletes and coaches rocked it! Special congratulations to our 2024 6A Girls Cross Country State CHAMPIONS! After placing 2nd for the last seven years, the girls blew past Jesuit to win the state title and are headed to Idaho this Thursday to compete in the regionals for the opportunity to compete at nationals. This is the first time since 1978 that LHS has won the State Championship and our girls are on fire! Sophomore Ellery Lincoln is one of three finalists for Oregon Cross-Country Runner of the Year. Our boys earned 4th place and we will proudly be displaying BOTH of our new trophies! Thank you to Coach Erik Dettman and Coach Marie Markham Davis for their dedication, care, and support for all of our XC athletes!
We have been seeing more student cell phone use at LHS during FLEX and BR breaks. Both are class/ instructional time. We are considering the use of Yondr pouches next year. Please talk to your student about your expectations regarding personal device use, not bringing a hidden 2nd phone to class, and respecting LHS policies around appropriate use of personal electronic devices. Parents can also restrict access to social media on LHS Chromebooks by following for more information on how to do this visit this page.
LHS has been experiencing a severe shortage of custodial staff this year. We need all students to respect the rule “no food in classrooms” and “no eating lunch above the first floor”. We also need each student to make sure that all waste is placed fully INSIDE the garbage cans, especially in bathrooms and at lunch. Students across the globe help care for their schools in these ways and we all need to help care for this beautiful new school. Graffiti costs time and money to fix, and we are asking students to please please not graffiti any areas. We have had a particularly hard time eliminating graffiti in the Boys bathrooms in particular. Please help us reinforce this message.
Vaccines play a crucial role in protecting our students from serious illnesses and help keep our community safe. Parents/ Guardians of students who are due to receive vaccines should receive a letter in the mail. Please check if your child’s vaccinations are current, including their recommended flu shot, and contact your medical provider or any of the resources listed below.

We are looking forward to connecting at PT Conferences in two weeks. If your student is thriving in their classes please consider sending an email to connect with teachers instead of signing up for conferences. This will allow teachers the opportunity to prioritize students who need added support to stay on track at LHS.
We appreciate all of you even more than ever during this month of giving thanks. Thank you for trusting us with your children and supporting our public schools. We have been hosting shadow days, talking with 8th grade families, and we hope every student who lives in our catchment area will choose LHS for their high school experience. Thank you all for helping us share the opportunities and the good work our teachers, students, scholar athletes, artists, and performing artists are doing here at LHS.
Go Cards!

Attendance Policy Update
This year, we are implementing a new "85 to Jive" attendance policy. To be eligible for end-of-year privileges like prom and graduation activities, students must maintain at least 85% attendance (no more than 27 missed days). This policy encourages regular attendance and supports academic success.
If a student’s attendance falls below this threshold, we will work with them and their family to create a modified attendance plan with support from our team, including Edwina, our Attendance Coach. Please contact the attendance office if you have questions or need assistance. Thank you for your support!
