Dear Families,
We hope you have had a wonderful fall break! We are looking forward to shepherding the students through the next three weeks before Winter Break.
December can be an exciting time full of disruptions to the routine of school, but please keep asking the students about school and encouraging them to show up prepared for learning each day. That means, students will have a binder in hand with folders and writing utensils inside. Work on the left can be given to you at home, and work on the right needs to be finished. Teachers give students time to complete work in class, so there may not be anything on the right.
If you are unsure of what your child is learning, or should be doing, don't forget to scroll to the end of the newsletter and view the Parent Resource. It contains updated information about the learning for the week in each class.
In addition to the normal expectations, we are adding one more. Students told us on the Successful Schools Survey last year that other students' behavior got in the way of their learning. We discussed this in each class to get more information and compiled the results. As a result, staff across our campus will be teaching the students to stop, look, listen and WAIT when others are talking. This seems so basic, but our students are struggling with it during classes and we want to do our part to teach, reinforce and support our students in developing this habit.
The photos and shout outs above are from our Spirit Week and Quarter 1 Celebration. During our quarterly celebrations, we recognize students with 90% or greater attendance, students who are nominated by staff for showing a commitment to learning, and students who are nominated by each other from demonstrating a commitment to friendship. It is such a fun time together, and all of your children are amazing contributors to our Hosford Community. Thank you for raising wonderful children! We truly do love teaching them at Hosford!
Warmly,
Jill Liddle, Principal

7th Grade Field Trip Details - December 3rd
We are excited to take the 7th Grade students to OSU on Tuesday, December 3rd! All the details you need are below.
Students need to arrive at school by 8:45 am. This means they need a ride to school. (The rest of the students start at 9:30 am on December 3rd.)
Students should go to the cafeteria to meet their 1st period teacher upon arrival.
We will have the cafeteria open for students who need a bagged lunch.
If bringing lunch from home, lunches must be in clear bags, brown paper bags or soft lunch pails. Glass, aluminum or hard lunch pails are prohibited inside Gill Coliseum.
There are refillable water stations on each floor of Gill Coliseum and we are encouraging the use of reusable water bottles to reduce waste.
Concession stands will be open for anyone who wishes to buy concession food at the game.
All concession stands will accept cash, for this game only.
No backpacks please. Students cannot bring them to OSU. If they leave them home, it will cut down on locker visits.
Please send students dressed to walk around outside. We will be walking campus after the game for about 20 minutes.
Please email me if you have any questions! jliddle@pps.net
Logging Into Canvas @ Home
To log into Canvas at home, students need to sign into Google with their user name and password. Then, go to my.pps.net.

Outdoor School - 6th Grade
Plan ahead families. 6th Grade students will travel to various outdoor school camps the week of May 18th - 23rd. Students get dropped off on a Sunday and picked up at school upon return on the 23rd - usually around 1 pm or so. Below is more information about Outdoor School and all the fun 6th graders will have.
Lost and Found
Hosford's Lost and Found is full to the brim! Leadership students will be organizing and displaying all items in the lost and found this week. Please encourage your student to take a look for anything they're missing. And when you come for conferences next week, stop by and take a look for yourself! All items will be on display outside the office. Anything leftover will be donated before Winter Break.
Contribute to Winter-time Gift Cards for Hosford Families!
Time to harness the giving spirit of our community! We are fundraising for gift cards for our families to be able to purchase items for their students. Last year, we raised just over $5,000, and the counselors were able to support over 30 families in our community!
This year, can we raise $6,500 to assist our community? All donated money will be used to purchase gift cards for families who request them (minus the small GoFundMe transaction fees) and will be distributed in December by the school counselors. If we raise enough money, the counselors will be able to reserve a few gift cards for any family emergencies that emerge later in the school year
If you are able, please donate here: Hosford Winter Wish List Donations
If you would like to receive a gift card, please fill out this request here: Request Form
This is such a strong and generous community! Thank you all!
Please contact salbert@pps.net with any questions.
Best,
Jessica Quarles (Hosford PTSA), Sara Albert, and your Hosford school counselors
The Greater Middle East Student Union
The Greater Middle East Student Union is looking for money donations to help fund lunches and field trips. We are a new student affinity group this year and can use all the help we can get. If you feel called to help support us, please donate here. Anything helps! Thank you so much!
Thank you!
Thank you so much to all our families that have sent boxes of tissues. Our students and staff appreciate them so much!
Our other major need at this time is pencils. Here is an example of what would be helpful for our classes, especially our science and math classes!
Chromebook Shift - Again
Students who have checked out Chromebooks for evening use will need to check them back in on Friday, November 22nd. We will be shifting Chromebooks to be used within classrooms and not carried around by students all day to each class.
Students who need Chromebooks for home use will work with the teacher that they are completing work for to check them out on a daily basis. The only exception to this is our students who are taking on-line high school courses.
This shift is being made to eliminate our 7 minute Chromebook return at the end of the day and eliminate the Chromebooks being dropping out of lockers and out of binders in the hallway.
We are working very hard to keep Chromebooks in working order for students to use. Thank you for your patience with our shifting practices.
Student Vaccinations
Vaccines play a crucial role in protecting our students from serious illnesses and help keep our community safe. Parents/ Guardians of students who are due to receive vaccines should receive a letter in the mail. Please check if your child’s vaccinations are current, including their recommended flu shot, and contact your medical provider or any of the resources listed below.

Funds for Hosford!
So far we have raised $9,041! Please help us reach our goal of $10,000 by donating today!
This is the PTSA's biggest fundraiser of the year and it is happening now!
The no-stuff fundraiser was started in 2019 to celebrate 100 years of education at Hosford. This donation drive allows the PTSA to fund student activities, host staff appreciation events and provide teacher grants for technology, books, art supplies and classroom equipment. In other words, it makes an immediate and powerful impact on our school. Every bit helps!
