ARLETA COMMUNITY ACTION
UPDATED! SEASON OF GIVING IS UPON US
**UPDATE: From now until Giving Tuesday (Dec. 3), one Arleta family will match donations up to $500! So let's give! If your family is also in a position to match donations, please email ArletaSchoolPTA@gmail.com so we can increase our matching potential.
Every year our Arleta Counselors, SUN Program and PTA Inclusion Committee team up to rally our community to raise funds in support of Arleta families. Gift cards will be purchased to directly support families for holiday meals, gifts or fulfill whatever their needs are. Our fundraising goal is $2,700 so that each family receives $150. So far we've raised $400.
Donations can be made via venmo to @Audrienne-Manansala (school counselor), or bring cash, check or unused gift cards to the office for Ms. Aud by Friday, December 13th at 3pm. Please give generously!
SHARE-A-TOY DRIVE THROUGH DEC 13
SUN in partnership with the PTA Inclusion Committee is hosting the 3rd annual toy drive to provide families an opportunity to come select holiday gifts before the winter break. We are seeking donations of new or excellent condition toys to include in the toy drive.
Check your kid's room for those forgotten or unused toys, or purchase something from one of our local shops like Hammer + Jacks or Red Castle Games, then bring it to the office by December 13th. Email melissasircy@gmail.com with any questions. Thanks for your support!
If you would like to shop the Toy Drive for your family Dec 16-20, set up an appointment with Raina Bilbrew at rbilbrew@pps.net.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR SCHOLASTIC BOOKFAIR
Dive into nostalgia and help support the Arleta library at the same time! Our fall book fair is right around the corner from December 2nd - 7th and we need your help to make it happen! Without parents helping to run the fair, it will have to be closed on the days Ms. Street is at her other school. So, on Tuesday and Friday the fair will be entirely parent-run, which makes those dates a special priority so that all classes and all kids get to have fun at the book fair! Check out available times on the Signup Genius to see when you can come out and help.
ARLETA'S WINTER BAZAAR NEED'S PARENT HELP!
Arleta's Winter Bazaar on Dec 7th is a highlight of the year, bringing everyone together to showcase our kids' creativity and enjoy a little magic of the season. But we need parent participation in a couple of ways:
We need your help to make the raffle extra special! We’re looking for fun and unique items to raffle off—think spa or beauty services, vacation rentals, local craft goodies, and tasty food and beverage treats. If you or someone you know can contribute, we’d love to hear from you! All donation offers should be made by emailing Arley Laman, clicking the button below.
We need parent volunteers to help make the event happen. This includes setting up, selling baked goods and concessions, and helping put everything away at the end.
We also need help making delicious things for the bake sale. Have a recipe you're proud of? Sign up by clicking the button below!
Let’s come together to make this event one to remember. Thanks for supporting Arleta Elementary!
MATCHING DONATIONS FOR BOTTLE DROP FUNDRAISER
Perhaps you find yourself drinking more sparkling water this time of year? Or maybe you are planning on hosting for Thanksgiving? This holiday season BottleDrop is contributing a 20% match on funds raised from November 15th – December 2nd.
Blue Bags for Bottle Drop donations are available in the office or you can email arletabottledrop@gmail.com to have some delivered to your door or to ask any questions about the program!
Full bags can be dropped at any bottle drop location or local grocery store including the Safeway on Woodstock.
THERE'S STILL TIME TO SIGN UP FOR OBOB THROUGH DEC 15TH
Hello 3rd - 5th Grade Families,
Since the pandemic, we've struggled to continue past traditions with our Oregon Battle of the Books (OBOB) program, so we've decided it's time to meet the moment and make some changes. The after school sessions have become more complicated with many students struggling to attend. With that in mind, we have decided to hold seeding matches (pool play) during the school day on Thursdays during the OBOB season instead of after school. By doing so, we hope this allows many more students the flexibility to participate.
If your child is interested in joining this free competitive book trivia tournament, you can sign them up with this link. If you are unsure or have questions about OBOB, there will be an information session on December 12th at 2:45PM that you are welcome to attend. Or, you can send questions to areltaobob@gmail.com. Registration will be extended to December 15th and a new schedule will be sent out afterwards.
By doing so, we hope this allows many more students the flexibility to participate. Books are available at the school library but you can click here to see the books on the Multnomah County Library website, including audiobooks. To go to the Arleta OBOB website, click here!

SCHOLASTIC BOOK FAIR DEC 2 - DEC 7
Arleta's Scholastic Bookfair opens this Monday, December 2nd, and runs through Saturday, December 7th. The book fair will be open 8am-3:30pm, in the library, Monday-Friday (provided we have parent volunteers on the days that Ms. Street is at Llwellyn) and will be open from 11am-2pm on Saturday Dec 7th during the Arleta Winter Bazaar. Help your kids develop a life-long love of reading as they excitedly browse the book fair. Get a sneak peak at some of the most popular books featured at the fair here and get to know a book better!
Kids and adults may bring cash, credit cards, checks made out to Arleta Elementary School, or your child can use a Scholastic eWallet. You can set up an eWallet for your child to use when their class is taken to the book fair, by clicking here! New to eWallets? View this video explaining how they work! A portion of sales will go back to the school to help fund our own scholastic, literary pursuits. And 25% of online sales during the book fair period will be given back to the school, which is a great double whammy for your holiday shopping. Click here to go to the Arleta Scholastic Bookfair page to learn more.

VOLUNTEER NEED SPOTLIGHT
VOLUNTEER FOR THE ARLETA WEBSITE
Arleta PTA's website helps parents connect to programs and keeps us all updated on events and resources at the school. But did you know it's run by parent volunteers? We need a new volunteer to upload flyers and information to our GoDaddy website. Knowledge of html or other web languages is not necessary but some familiarity with website building software is a plus (though not a requirement) and the tasks take about 30-45 minutes once a week. This is a way to help Arleta from the comfort of your home! Our outgoing volunteer Sheryl Moren will train you.
To volunteer please email the PTA by clicking the button below.
SCHOOL NEWS
THANK YOU FOR A SUCCESSFUL COMMUNITY CARE DAY!
You make our school a better place to be!
NOVEMBER IS NATIVE AMERICAN HERITAGE MONTH!
Each week the Dolphin Digest highlights different topics of interest and provide different resources for you to celebrate Native American Heritage Month. Week 1's newsletter explored stories and books. Week 2 we celebrated famous people past and present. Last week we looked at crafts you can do with your kids during the long weekend. This week, we're looking at historical records and events!
This year's bulletin board for Native American Heritage Month in the cafeteria includes a timeline of Native American history. New archeological finds and better technologies change and deepen our view of ancient history so that revisions happen from time to time, but the depth and breadth of the history of our land cannot be doubted. Helping your children understand this history can give us all a better sense of connection to the past and a deeper understanding of the present. Consider sharing the timeline with your kids, or choosing events or parts of the timeline to explore together as a family.
