Demo Families,
Thank you for another great week from the Demos! As we close out our Fall Sports season, we’re already gearing up for Winter Sports. In addition, we’re excited to announce the opening night for our Drama Department and our Jefferson Dancers ("JD")are hard at work preparing for their upcoming performance and fundraiser (more info below).
We're also continuing our focus on improving attendance while implementing Tier 1 Teaching Strategies to help our students better engage with their learning.

To Excuse an Absence:
As a parent or guardian only, you have several options to excuse your student's attendance:
Call 503-916-5180 Option 2 (please leave a message if it goes to voicemail); The office checks voicemail until 4:00 pm daily
Email JeffersonAttend@pps.net
Send a note with your student, your signature, and contact information.
An absence may be excused if the absence is caused by:
* Sickness/ ILL
*An emergency
* Pre Arranged Appointment
*If your student has a medical appointment, have reception print them out an attendance note
* Or other urgent emergencies
*Students are not excused for non-urgent matters.
We are having a high volume of parents excusing unexcused absences, we would like to make sure you know, that these cannot continue to be excused, if they don't fit the above criteria.

Student IDs
If you indicated that you needed a student ID reprinted from Picture Retake Day, come by the main office to claim it.
If you have lost your student ID and need one reprinted, come to the main office to let us know so that we can reprint it and have it ready by the end of the day. Replacement student IDs are $10 and we accept cash or card. We do not accept tap to pay at this time.

November/ December Calendars
Student Support Team:
Please take a moment to review your student’s Quarter 1 grades. If they are currently failing (F) or are at risk of failing (D) a class that is required for graduation, it is really important that they take action now to improve their grade before the end of Semester 1. Students who do not pass required courses are at risk of not graduating on time and may need to retake their class during Summer or Evening Scholars.
There is still more than enough time to improve a failing grade. You can help encourage your student to:
Attend all classes,
Complete and submit work on time for all classes,
Attend FLEX periods with their teacher get help,
Consider attending FREE after school tutoring/study hall sessions, which is offered Monday-Thursday, 3:30-5:30 in the library
Not sure why your student is not passing (or is close to not passing) one or more of their classes? Call/email their teachers, check their progress in ParentVue, and plan on attending a conference for your student on either November 25 or November 26.

School Nurse
We are lucky to have our School Based Health Clinic here at Jefferson. For those of you not familiar with the clinic, it is a Multnomah County health clinic that happens to sit within our school. This makes it very convenient for your student to get their needs met, including immunizations. The last week of November, when there is no school, would be a great time to get those immunizations. They will be open Monday-Wednesday that week from 8:00- 4:00 & closed for lunch 12:40-1:10. Give them a call at 503-988-3360, they’d be happy to help!
