Monday Message
February 2nd, 2024
Dear Marysville Families,
Happy February.
Thank you to Sean Cunningham for the wonderful Winter Concert. It was a pleasure to listen to all of the talented students and to see them shine on stage. Thank you also to all the families that came to the event. We really appreciate your patience with the crowds and wait for seating in the cafeteria. It is exciting though that our community has grown so much and is so willing to participate in our school events.
Thank you also to our Marysville Family Association for providing a delicious bake sale.
We will be having another all school event in celebration of Black History Month on 2/29/24 and hope to see you all there again.
Next week we will participate in the Winter Walk and Roll to School Program on Wednesday 2/7 during morning arrival.
PBOT will have a table set up in the front of the building from 8:30 am - 9:00 am with information to share about 82nd Avenue Improvement Project. They are looking for feedback on proposed changes to intersections along 82nd near Marysville, specifically at Raymond and Mitchell Ave.
I hope that everyone has an enjoyable sunny weekend.
To avoid long lines, we are trying to help families get immunizations now rather than wait until closer to Feb 21 (School Exclusion Day).
- If your child is missing vaccines, it's time to catch up!
Vaccines keep your child healthy and protected from serious diseases. They are required by law for all children in schools, preschools and child care facilities. Parents will be sent a letter if their child’s vaccination records are incomplete. To avoid missing school or child care, get your child up to date on their vaccinations as soon as possible. Make a vaccine appointment now, as there may be a long wait.
PPS is required to ensure that all students are up to date on all school-required immunizations, or have a signed medical exemption letter signed by a licensed physician or a non-medical exemption, by Wednesday, February 21, 2024 (“Exclusion Day”). Immunizations are required by state law for children and students in attendance at public and private schools, preschools, childcare facilities and Head Start programs in Oregon.
On February 7th, the Multnomah County Health Department (MCHD) will mail a notification letter to all students who are due to receive one or more required vaccinations or who do not have a record of immunization. Students who do not have all their school-required vaccines or a qualifying exemption by Exclusion Day will not be allowed to attend school until their immunizations are up-to-date.
What to do if you get a letter
Call your school if you have already provided your child’s immunization record to the school and verify whether the school has a copy on file.
If your student needs updated vaccinations, get your child immunized right away. You can schedule an appointment with your child’s regular health care provider, or with:
One of the MCHD Student Health Centers.
The MCHD Immunization Clinic at 619 NW 6th Avenue, Room 150, Portland, OR. This Clinic occurs every Tuesday and Thursday 9am - 4pm, and Friday 10am - 5pm. Call 503-988-4724 for an appointment.
Bring to your child’s appointment the Certificate of Immunization Status Form that was included with the letter you received from MCHD. This Form will let the provider know what vaccinations your student still needs. If you misplace the CIS Form you received in the mail, you can request another copy from your child’s school).
Once your student has received their required vaccines, sign the completed immunization form and turn it in to your child’s school.
Thank you for keeping your student and their classmates safe, in school, and ready to learn!
PPS decarbonization roadmap: community input/listening sessions
PPS is seeking input from students, teachers, school staff, and community members about how to build a long-range plan to lower carbon emissions in our district. Decarbonizing the district will improve community health and comfort, resiliency, and student learning outcomes while lowering operating costs and reducing our carbon footprint.
The PPS Climate Crisis Response, Climate Justice and Sustainable Practices Policy sets district goals to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 50 percent by 2030, using the 2018-2019 school year as a baseline, and reach net zero emissions by 2040.
The question we want help answering is: “How can PPS most effectively implement GHG emissions reduction measures to give us the best chance of meeting our emissions goals, given financial, industry, and facility constraints, while considering historic inequities in the distribution of resources across PPS?”
WE WANT YOUR INPUT!
Please join PPS and our decarbonization team to provide your feedback! There will be five in-person sessions, and one virtual session for interactive and collaborative feedback. There is also an option to provide input through an online survey.
Check out the decarbonization meeting flier to learn more about the input sessions including dates, locations, and times. Come with colleagues, students, or parents!
Please click here to sign up for an in-person or virtual meeting. You can also choose to provide written feedback through this online survey.
What can I expect from these sessions?
During these sessions, attendees can provide their thoughts and input into how PPS can best reduce carbon emissions across the district while also prioritizing our school communities, especially those adversely impacted by climate change, the needs of our students and staff, and fiscal responsibility. Attendees will have the opportunity to speak to questions like:
What does decarbonization at the district and your local school sites mean to you?
Why is it important to you that PPS reduces its greenhouse gas emissions?
How should PPS balance things like equity, cost, comfort, and efficiency, and scale?
What at these sites should we prioritize for upgrades?
Who should attend?
Schools impact the lives of everyone in a community, so all students, staff, parents, and any community members are welcome to provide feedback.
