A Note from Principal Presley
Happy (rainy) Sunday!
It's hard to believe that an early release Friday turned into a whole week away. Growing up in Michigan, I don't recall anything like this, and it certainly wouldn't have ever happened in Phoenix. I hope you all stayed warm and your homes relatively unscathed. For our home, it was simply a matter of poor homeownership (we never had to put sinks on a drip in AZ) and old windows making it hard for the heat to keep up. Overall, we were very fortunate.
For a lot of families, staff, and PPS schools the damage was greater. Some experienced frozen/burst pipes, downed trees, power outages, etc. A special thanks to Corina for checking in on the school to make sure there hasn't been any significant damage. Some schools across the district will not open in person tomorrow due to damage and have to take their learning online. I'm surely grateful to be returning to everyone tomorrow!
Conferences
Missing last week meant missing quite a few things with conferences being a big one. If you had a scheduled conference (K-5), your child's teacher will reach out to reschedule. Our MS team meets tomorrow about the make up days and will send correspondence immediately following.
MS Dance
Another missed event due to weather was the Middle School Dance. It has been rescheduled to February 2nd from 6-8 PM. Thanks to Korwren and Ms. Kobs for scheming up last minute changes and communicating out to families!
Late Start Day
As a reminder, Thursday, January 25 (this week), is a 2 hour delay with middle school's bell ringing at 10:37 AM and K-5's bell ringing at 10:45 AM. This is a school-wide time for teachers to thoughtfully and intentionally foster a sense of belonging, community and social-emotional well-being for students, staff, and families using the newly adopted curriculum and community circle approach.
