A Note from Principal Presley
In other news, our assistant principal, Alicia McMillen, is going to be out for an extended period of time. In her absence, please reach out to me with any concerns/support you may have typically gone to her for or touch base with the front office.
Thinking back on the week, there were many highlights. Students were back and practicing routines! Tons of new shoes were being carefully walked in so as to not crease them (I will never not giggle at how middle schoolers look when trying so hard not to ruin their new sneakers).
Staff participated in a great professional development reminding them of the steps to de-escalation and probably wished they had it before the break to practice on their extended family!
We celebrated a week of healthy for staff members, very few absences- thank goodness! The one day we needed coverage for a teacher's absence, everyone stepped in graciously. It’s nice to have a team that’s willing and supportive. I even had the joy of subbing one period, too, which will always be a delight for me!
A final highlight has been seeing all of the staff interested in joining our staff book club (we're reading Deliberate Optimism).
As you head into the weekend, I hope you can get some rest, enjoy time with friends/family, and as a reminder, conferences begin next Wednesday and Thursday for middle school families and are well underway for our elementary school families.
Statewide Testing Opt-Out
As required by the Oregon Department of Education, we are providing you with the 30 Day Notice and Opt Out Form for Statewide Assessments in English Language Arts and Mathematics. The notice is available in English, Spanish, Vietnamese, Chinese, Russian and Somali on the PPS Research, Assessment, and Accountability website.
Statewide testing is part of our balanced assessment system that offers all students, especially historically underserved students, opportunities to demonstrate their progress. Information provided by student assessments is critical in helping us determine district and school priorities for improving student learning.
